||  An unprecedented and sensational statistic has come to light that the main opposition political party Awami League and its associate organizations have crippled the grassroots and middle-level leaders and activists in a combing operation under the guise of controlling law and order across the country. A total of 32,908 people have been arrested in the two-and-a-half-month special operation conducted from May 1 to July 12 this year. In addition, another 83,817 people have been sent to Srighar for warrants in various old cases. Although the police administration claims that the mega operation is a regular legal process, the political realities on the ground and reliable sources have confirmed that the vast majority of those arrested are thousands of activists of the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League.
